OSCD-7
North Boulevard is the most elegant and im-portant civic thoroughfare of Baton Rouge. It could be the City’s equivalent to the State Capitol grounds, but it is not yet conceived as such.
North Boulevard is the site for some of the City’s most important institutions, among which should be the City Hall. To fulfill its symbolic role, several corrections are necessary to the streetscape. Currently flanked by the handsome United Methodist Church on the south, the eastern end is flanked on the north by the virtually unused parking lot of the Post Office. This lot should be bought or traded for a less prominent one. It is a possible location for the Department of Public Works, as it would have excellent access to the highway leading to all parts of the city.
Purchase through negotiation the site of the Post Office parking lot on North Boulevard. Reserve it for a suitable civic building, perhaps the Department of Public Works or Nineteenth Judicial Courthouse.
